We are delighted to introduce Jasmine Walker, who will be a research collaborator with CAT Lab this year. Jasmine has received a Practitioner Fellowship at Stanford University for 2023-24. This prestigious fellowship, hosted jointly by Stanford’s Digital Civil Society Lab (DCSL) and the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity (CCSRE), supports social sector leaders to develop ideas to benefit civil society.

Jasmine has collaborated with CAT Lab since 2018 to study moderation and content policy on Reddit. Her project, Keeping it 100: What can be done to recruit and retain Black moderators?, will focus on what can be done to recruit and retain Black moderators on Reddit, and represents the culmination of many years’ collaboration. Jasmine is a professional environmental health specialist, and has been an active volunteer moderator on Reddit for over a decade.

As a community science lab, we trace our impact through the collaboration we bring to community members’ ambitions and achievements. During Jasmine’s fellowship, we are proud to serve as thought partners and community for her efforts, and to support her inquiries as they expand and grow. If you would like to be in touch, please reach out to her at walkerjl@stanford.edu.

We are so excited to collaborate with Jasmine, and to see her work unfold to the benefit of society at large. Congratulations!
